Geographically, this region can be categorized into Eastern Himalaya, the Patkai and the Brahmaputra, and the Barak valley plains. There is a vast diversity of flora and fauna attributable to the Indian subcontinent's last remaining rainforests. There are significant reserves of petroleum and natural gas also found in the area.
